Earlier in the week Hospital got invited to take part in a Go Kart race at a brand new circuit in Bermondsey South London. Organised by our friends – the mega house music label Defected records, Hospital were representing Drum & Bass with dance magazine Mixmag supplying the third team of drivers.
The Rave Digger himself Danny Byrd, Man of the moment Dan Nu:Tone, and Tony Colman (aka London Elek) all stepped up alongside Hospital’s head of press and promo Tom Kelsey (aka Tomahawk).
On arrival to the circuit it soon became clear that the Defected team were dedicated, experienced Karters inviting us on the (correct) assumption that we were complete novices! After a few practice laps however we soon got into the swing, and it has to be said Nu:Tone excelled himself behind the wheel. While you might expect a man of Nu:Tone’s stature to be all “mirror, signal, manoeuvre” he was in fact, a bit of a force to be reckoned with on the tarmac. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about our other drivers! Both London Elek and Tomahawk got black-flagged in the qualifying – putting them at the back of grid for the race, while Danny Byrd (who’s obviously been spending too much time with the other stars of the “Tonight” video) managed to trundle round the track like an OAP on a mobility scooter. Nu:Tone gained poll position with some speedy qualifying times and went on to come second overall in the final race.
