Fred V & Grafix ‘Forest Fires’ Feat. Etherwood

Thursday, June 19th, 2014

After the release of their debut album ‘Recognise’ in March the Devonshire duo follow up with their second single. ‘Forest Fires’ features the vocals of fellow rising star of drum+bass Etherwood.

Debuted by Zane Lowe on Radio One, Forest Fires encapsulates Fred V & Grafix’s ability to effortlessly gel live guitars and instruments with up to date drum+bass production and vocals to create something fresh. Even ahead of release the track has been added to the BBC Radio 1 playlist.

Remixes come from Etherwood, Taiki & Nulight , Massappeals and Loire. Etherwoods’s own take is in an alternative drum+bass re-rub. Taiki & Nulight drop the tempo and apply their deep house sensibility to the mix. Massappeals twists things up with a trap refix & Loire brings the tempo back down for a chilled finish.

With a minimal drop, the vocals soar over the beats creating a sing along anthem and dance floor smasher. Ahead of release the track is already receiving support across the scene and also featured it’s exclusive debut one Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show.

NEW SIGNING: Lynx

Friday, June 13th, 2014

Needing little introduction, we are very proud to announce the exclusive signing of Lynx to Hospital Records.

Portsmouth-born Lynx had his first release at the tender age of 17, back in 1996 with Southampton-based Hardcore pioneers, Ramos, Supreme and Sunset Regime. A career in music beckoned and he set about racking up many years of commercial studio experience plus a Masters degree in Audio Technology, learning his trade and developing the skills to take his sound further. Starting with work experience at Chichester based studio ‘Airtight’, Lynx worked alongside the likes of Friction, Mampi Swift, Stakka, Skynet, and Skinny where he demonstrated a hard-working attitude plus a natural aptitude at the controls and earned himself the po- sition of co-managing the studio. From his musical beginnings producing hardcore, in 2002 Lynx moved into the new, techno-infused wave of drum & bass and racked up a string of releases with Brighton based labels Underfire Recordings and Audio Blueprint (Stakka & Skynet). Tracks such as ‘Meltin Pot’ and ‘Special Agent’ were championed by Andy C, Ed Rush & Optical, Shimon and Kemal. Keen to progress and diversify his sound, Lynx collaborated with popular French DJ Flow to produce ‘Time-Out’ (Renegade Recordings, 2002). The track appeared on the first ‘Renegade Rollers’ compilation and proved a firm favourite with Radio 1’s Fabio and the legendary John Peel, giving Lynx confidence in his ability to capture the essence of a musical genre and produce drum & bass across the musical spectrum.

Reinventing drum & bass from the ground up, Lynx’s funk-fuelled sets have gained a reputation for smashing stereotypes as well as dance floors and, like his productions, appeal to clubbers across the spectrum. Soul:r, Creative Source, Digital Soundboy and his own imprint Detail Recordings are just some of the leading labels he’s released on, not to mention his most recent single on Ram Records; all are proof that his sound is not only fresh but diverse. Lynx has clearly demonstrated he’s not afraid to break the mould whilst staying true to his own style.

We welcome Lynx to the family and are very excited to unveil what the future holds for him. Be sure to watch this space….

S.P.Y talks about some of the tracks from his new album “Back To Basics Chapter One”

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

After the huge impact of his debut LP “What The Future Holds” in 2012, S.P.Y goes “Back To Basics” and takes us deeper, darker and further underground with his new LP. We spoke to him to find out a little bit more about the inspiration behind some of the tracks on the album.

Cold Harsh Air

Cold Harsh Air is a collaboration with Total Science and Grimm. We got inspired to write this track because it was really cold in London at the time and we wanted to do something that was musical but not necessarily a summer track. We combined a light, musical melody with the deep rolling baseline to give the track depth, then passed it over to Grimm in Canada to add the vocals.

Brooklyn Dub

I wrote the first idea for this track whilst in Brooklyn, New York in 2012 and the track actually started with a beat inspired by a mix of breakdance and Afrika Bambaataa. I rediscovered the track on a hard drive late last year and redeveloped it into a drum and bass track, whilst still keeping the break style. I really enjoy playing this track on tour to mix up my sets and give the crowd something different.

Dusty Fingers

I wrote this track after a long day of getting my fingers dusty crate digging in a record shop in North London. After I got home I listened to some of the records and began to get really inspired. For the edge that I wanted to give to the track the only vocalist that came to mind was Dianne, her voice is beautiful yet deep at the same time. As I’ve done for the whole album, I’ve tried to keep all of the tracks with an oldskool late 90′s vibe.

All these tracks are available for free when you pre-order S.P.Y’s album from iTunes. Alternatively, all pre-orders of the LP and CD from the Hospital Shop come signed by the man himself!
