PRE-ORDER: Lakeway – ‘Frozen Nerves’ EP

July 6, 2018 in News

170BPM grime space-traveller Lakeway has landed back down on earth, riding an intergalactic wave that’s headed straight for our frontal cortex. It’s with unbelievable excitement that Med School proudly welcomes this futuristic waveman as the newest artist to sign exclusively to the label with his brand new ‘Frozen Nerves’ EP.

Straight off the bat, and as hard as you like is ‘My Ting’ (ft. Marger). A thugged out grime beat doused in a pool of amens, real talk and militant snare sprays. Title track ‘Frozen Nerves’ is a juke beat on steroids, jacked up to 170 BPM with semi-automatic snare shots and a bassline wobble Mr Oizo would be proud of.

Death Becomethproves the young artist’s versatility with ambient jazz influences tailored to Lakeway’s grime form. ‘Synapses’ is another hybrid offspring with epic horns, incredible instrumentation and a tribal/jungle fusion. The final slice of ‘Frozen Nerves’ gold is ‘You’re The Broken Winter’ that’s almost beyond words with its raw hip-hop and otherworldly synth work. Take a bow Lakeway.

At just 22 years old Lakeway has already played live at the world famous Fabric nightclub and been welcomed onto national airwaves by Rockwell for a guest mix on BBC Radio 1. His energetic and explosive DJ style has seen him get the nod from A-list DJs such as London Elektricity showing love for his unique performances. Radio support from Rene LaVice and regular nods from DJ Mag and Mixmag show this trailblazing young buck is doing everything right.

Speech Therapy 001: Krakota & The Mongol Rally

Welcome to the first edition of what will be an occasional sub genre of the Hospital Podcast, called 'Speech Therapy'. No, this isn't us trying to teach you how to speak proper, but it's a chance to go in on interesting people with stories to tell who are connected to the drum and bass world. All talk, no music. If you like jogging to our podcasts, maybe skip these, but if you've been wanting more of the inside story, listen on. I kick off the series with an in depth journal from Krakota describing his drive in the 2018 Mongol Rally. Driving from Prague to the Eastern edge of Mongolia. In an ancient Ford Fiesta. With only 3 pairs of pants (English word for male underwear). I hope you enjoy this new endeavour - back to the music next week!
